March 2019 Workshops

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

Last month the Co-Founders of strongHER, Alicia and Daria Capone, hosted their first three workshops. They started at the Beebe Middle School in Malden, MA where they spent time with girls in the after school program and then headed to Lorraine Spada School of Dance in Wilmington, MA to work with the athletes before their big weekend competition. The following week Alicia and two volunteers spent time with the girls lacrosse team at the Oak Hill Middle School in Newton, MA.

In the two hour workshops the participants learned tools to improve self confidence and mental toughness. The workshops started with introductions by the facilitators and worked into a fun interactive ice breaker. The interactive discussions reviewed goal setting skills, positive mindset and words of affirmation. Between each discussion were small breakout group activities focused on visualization, SMART goals and perseverance.

The girls were then put to the test with a fun physical challenge/activity where the girls were encouraged to use some or all of the skills they learned that day to motivate themselves, each other, and complete the task. The workout the girls participated in was designed by The Program Athletics.

"The Program has a mission to create more cohesive teams and build better leaders through shared adversity. Our teammates draw on their experiences as members of elite military units to help individuals and teams push outside of their comfort zones.

-Jake McDonald Lead Instructor

After the activity Daria lead the girls in a 5 minute"cool down" meditation. During the meditation the girls were asked to reflect on their day and let their negative thoughts go.

"My favorite part was the meditation because it really relaxed me and helped me clear my head ."

We are off to a great start and look forward to schedule some workshops this summer. If you are interested in hosting a workshop for your team/extra-curricular group/organization, or after school groups/programs contact us at strongherorg@gmail.com.
